At some point, he may have to grin and bear it and do the right thing by sticking it out until the contract expires. Donaire hasn’t fought since February when he stopped Fernando Montiel in two rounds. Donaire can’t afford to sit out too long, because he’ll only be hurting himself. They are waiting for Donaire to report and start planning for his next. This comes after an arbitrator ruled in favor or Top Rank in their tug of war with Golden Boy Promotions for the services of Donaire. Bob Arum was hoping to get Donaire back in action on May 28th, but that’s obviously not going to happen now.Donaire had thought that his contract was up with Top Rank. However, because of the time that he missed due to injuries, his contract was extended. Donaire signed a four contract with Golden Boy thinking his contract was up with Top Rank. It wasn’t, as it turns out. Donaire is still hoping to get out of the contract with Top Rank. It remains to be seen whether Donaire will be able to do that.
Nonito Donaire Still in Limbo as Top Rank Waits for Decision
The Manila Bulletin reports that Bob Arum and Top Rank are still waiting on top bantamweight star Nonito Donaire to get in touch. Donaire attempted to leave Top Rank for Golden Boy Promotions after his February blowout of Fernando Montiel, but an arbitrator ruled that Donaire's contract with Top Rank was still valid.
During the dispute and controversy, Arum made some nasty remarks about Donaire's wife, Rachel, and you can't help but think that that has to still be playing a role here. Donaire is obviously a valued property in boxing, and swallowing his pride to put money in Arum's pocket seems like it would be a tough way to continue a career.
But the bantamweight division is hot, and though it might pain him to do so, getting in the ring and fighting -- when he would be a favorite against any of the name fighters in the division -- would be best for his career. He can still leave Top Rank when his deal is up, and signing with Golden Boy would open a potential fight with Abner Mares, in addition to potential matchups with Joseph Agbeko, Vic Darchinyan, or the other top stars.
There's still no timetable for Donaire's return, but he hasn't been hiding. Donaire attended the Ward vs Abraham fight last night, and recently was ringside as a photographer for the April 29 edition of Friday Night Fights.
Vic Darchinyan: it was Donaire who refused clash planned for 2010
PanARMENIAN.Net - IBO bantamweight champion Vic Darchinyan commented on WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire’s accusations.
“It was Donaire who refused a clash planned for 2010. He stalled for time, during contract negotiations which lasted for almost 6 weeks. I will ask my manager to discuss the situation with Donaire’s manager,” Darchinyan said in a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.
Earlier, WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire reacted to Vic Darchinyan’s calls for a rematch. According to Darchinyan, Donaire has been refusing him a revanche match for 4 years.
"Last year, August 21 was the scheduled date for us. Three months before that he pulled out, saying I signed the contract too long, but it was three more months before the fight. And the first fight we had, I signed the day of the weigh-ins. He just didn't want to face me. They said that he didn't want to fight me right now,” Donaire told BoxingScene.com.
“He called me out after his fight against Perez and you know what? He's actually growing a little more balls to call me out and really mean it. But I'm not here to talk. I'm here to fight. I'm not here to call out anybody. Well, I'll call out anybody when I have to, like when I did with Montiel, because I really wanted that fight. But I'm here to fight anybody. So, whoever they have in front of me, I'm more willing to exchange with them leather you know?" he said.
TOP RANK PRESIDENT TO MEET WITH DONAIRE'S MANAGER
Top Rank Promotions president Todd Duboef is scheduled to meet with the manager of WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire today (Thursday in the US) regarding the stalemate over Donaire's contract with Top Rank. Bob Arum told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that his stepson Duboef would meet with Donaire's manager Cameron Dunkin Thursday morning to discuss the issue of Donaire's contract.
Arum said Donaire "either he fulfills the contract or we continue with this nonsense which is a pity."
He was referring to Donaire's having signed up with Golden Boy Promotions claiming that Top Rank was in "breach of contract" for not fulfilling its commitment to give Donaire three fights a year.
However, Arum had claimed they could not meet the terms of the contract because injuries to Donaire had set them back by 300 on medical suspensions.
The stalemate over Donaire's contract prevented a planned unification title fight with WBA champion Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno on May 28.
One positive development was the agreement reached between Top Rank and Golden Boy on the case of Juan Manuel Marquez where Golden Boy didn't exercise its option to match the offer of Arum for Marquez to fight Manny Pacquiao.
The issue was handled by arbitrator and former judge Daniel Weinstein. Arum revealed that "we have had a mediation last Monday and solved other outstanding issues, including the Marquez case."
The Top Rank promoter added that he "could not go into" details of the mediation. The Inquirer learned that Donaire and his wife Rachel are scheduled to visit the Philippines in June although no other details were available.

It has now been nearly three months since Nonito Donaire's two round blowout of former WBC/WBO Bantamweight champion Fernando Montiel, and despite greatly raising his profile and capturing two titles in the process, his next move remains unclear.
To make matters worse, despite apparently wanting essentially the same thing, Donaire and current promoter Bob Arum don't appear to be on the same page about where they go from here.
In a recent interview with the Manila Bulletin, Top Rank boss Bob Arum claimed that he has had no contact with Donaire and team of late, saying only:
"We're still waiting for him"
Donaire on the other hand has repeatedly said over the last few weeks that he is eager to fight again as soon as possible, stating his intentions in several interviews and even polling fans on his Facebook page over who he should face next.
"Well, I'm anxious to get my next fight date. As I've said before, I'm willing to fight anyone...I just want to fight! Have a great day everyone!"
So if Donaire is eager to fight and Arum is ready to put a fight together, just who is it that's holding things up?
The obvious issue still separating Donaire and Top Rank is the popular Fil-Am's recent attempt to jump ship to rival promotion Golden Boy.
Believing that Top Rank had invalidated his contract with them by not providing him with his contracted three fights per year, Donaire in March announced that he had signed with Golden Boy.

COURT HEARING ON DISPUTED DONAIRE CONTRACT IN JUNE
The manager of WBC/WBO bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Cameron Dunkin said today that there will be a court hearing on the contractual dispute between Donaire and Top Rank sometime in June. Donaire claimed Top Rank was guilty of a breach of contract for not fulfilling its agreement to get him three fights a year and signed up with arch rivals Golden Boy Promotions. Top Rank’s Bob Arum contested the allegation and insisted Top Rank had a valid and enforceable contract because Donaire was medically suspended for several months thereby preventing Top Rank from getting him fights as prescribed in their contract.
Dunkin told the Philippine Daily Inquirer that he met with Top Rank president Todd Duboef but that the meeting “was not about Nonito Donaire.” Dunkin revealed he had two contracts done for Mikey Garcia and Brandon Rios.
Arum said earlier today that Duboef and Dunkin had a good meeting but that he couldn’t disclose any details.
Donaire’s manager said “he (Donaire) is going to court and we are going to have a hearing sometime in June and there’ll be arbitration of some sort.”
Indications are that retired judge Daniel Weinstein who arbitrates all issues between Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions would be the arbitrator. Weinstein recently helped pave the way for an agreement between Top Rank and Golden Boy that allowed the third fight between pound for pound king Manny Pacquiao and Juan Manuel “Dinamita” Marquez to take place at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on November 12
Dunkin said “hopefully this will iron out” because Donaire “is in the gym training. He can’t stay away from it and calls three or four times a week saying ‘I’m ready to fight’ because he’s a fighter. He loves to work out and talk about boxing, loves to watch boxing and he’s just a real great kid.”
Dunkin said he was disappointed that the planned May 28 unification title fight against Anselmo “Chemito” Moreno didn’t push through because “ he (Donaire) is the one that people look forward to watching.”
The respected manager said that boxing needs fighters like Donaire “so badly and it is a shame. Hopefully this will all get settled quickly.”
Todd duBoef and Cameron Dunkin Meet to Discuss Future of Nonito Donaire, Top Rank Relationship
Lem Satterfield reports that Nonito Donaire and manager Cameron Dunkin met with Top Rank's Todd duBoef on Thursday. Bob Arum was not present, but had a good impression of the meeting:
"Todd thought it was a good meeting. Cameron, I guess, thought that it was a good meeting. There are other people involved. Whatever comes of it, I don't know."
Whether or not "other people" has anything to do with Donaire's wife Rachel is -- well, you could assume, but it would just be speculation. Rachel Donaire plays a key role in her husband's career, and was the target of Arum's venom back in March when the entire mess between Donaire, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions was going down. Arum said that Rachel Donaire was "all tarted up" in public, comparing her unfavorably to Manny Pacquiao's wife, Jinkee, who "dresses like a lady," according to Arum.
There has still got to be plenty of bad blood between the parties. It's unimaginable that there isn't. But a meeting with duBoef and Dunkin is a good first step, and the most important thing is that Donaire get back in the ring instead of wasting any more time. Plenty of time in his career has already been spent sitting on the sidelines.

Fellow Filipino says speed is the key for “Pacman”
With just over 36 hours to go until the mega-fight between seven-weight world champion Manny “Pacman” Pacquaio and three-weight title winner “Sugar” Shane Mosley at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, unified bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire has stated his big-fight prediction.
The 28 year-old, who is yet to finalize his next fight date after a contract wrangle with his promoters Top Rank, believes that the WBO welterweight title fight will the go full twelve rounds, with his fellow countryman coming out on top with a unanimous points victory on Saturday night.“That's going to be a hell of a fight,” Donarie told examiner.com.
“I think Pacquiao is going to get it. Mosley is a tough fighter but I see it as speed and offense for Manny Pacquiao all the way through for a unanimous decision.
"Mosley is going to try to do his last hurrah," he explained. "I think that Mosley, he can still bring it out there. He still has the speed and the power, definitely. But I think that Manny has this incredible speed as well as power."

Donaire of course made headlines last month by attempting to break free of his promotional ties to Top Rank in signing an exclusive deal with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions. The matter was taken to court and judge Daniel Weinstein ruled that Top Rank's contract was still binding and that Golden Boy was prohibitied from promoting him for the near future.
It's definitely a touchy subject and you would hate to see a guy like Donaire become inactive over this but he obviously isn't looking to distance himself from Golden Boy, who is staging the 'Action Heroes' event tonight inside of the MGM Grand, headlined by Marcos Maidana facing off with Erik Morales. It's been said that Donaire is looking to appeal Weinstein's ruling, as Golden Boy has been adamant about their belief in Donaire.
Donaire refused to comment on the issue and is obviously going to be laying low for a while. If anything it was great to see the bantamweight champion smiling and around the sport he loves best.

Unified bantamweight champ Nonito Donaire will be ringside at this week’s ESPN Friday Night Fights, which takes place at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. No, Donaire, who’s coming off a spectacular knockout win over Fernando Montiel, won’t be lacing up the gloves, instead he’ll be going to work in a different field.
