On Friday, Aug. 17, IBF/WBA super bantamweight champion Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire will throw out the ceremonial first pitch of the A’s vs. Cleveland Indians 7:05 p.m. game as a part of A’s Filipino Heritage Night.
Donaire (29-1, 18 KOs) unified the super bantamweight titles by capturing the IBF belt after defeating Jeffrey Mathebula via unanimous decision on July 7 in Carson, Calif. His next fight is scheduled for Oct. 13 against Toshiaki Nishioka (39-4-3, 24 KOs) in Carson, Calif. Donaire, a four-division champion, was born in the Philippines, raised in San Leandro, Calif. and now lives and trains on the Peninsula.
TICKETS: Tickets to the A’s Fourth Annual Filipino Heritage night, presented by Cache Creek Casino Resort, are available online at www.oaklandathletics.com/filipino. Fans who purchase a special ticket for this event will receive a Plaza Infield ticket to the game, traditional Filipino food item served in the Westside Club and exclusive A’s Filipino Heritage beanie. Filipino-American singer Jason Farol, who was partnered with Kelly Clarkson on the singing competition Duets, will perform the national anthem. A portion of the ticket proceeds from this event will be donated to local Filipino non-profit organizations.
