MANILA, Philippines – Boxing analyst Al Bernstein believes Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire will remain unbeatable as a bantamweight and could even remain competitive all the way up to the featherweight division.

He said Donaire, the newly crowned World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion, will be too much for anyone fighting in the 118-pound division.

"I don't think anybody at 118 pounds could touch Nonito Donaire," he said in FightHype.com.

As a former boxing reporter for ESPN and now analyst for Showtime Championship Boxing, Berstein knows a boxing talent when he sees it.

He thinks Donaire has what it takes to be successful in the super bantamweight and featherweight divisions.

Donaire recently demolished Mexican champion Fernando Montiel in just two rounds to take away the bantamweight titles.

"What he will do with Juan Manuel Lopez or even more so Yuriorkis Gamboa, that's a different story. But up to 126 pounds (featherweight), there is not a human on this planet that can beat Nonito Donaire," said Bernstein.

Lopez, the reigning WBO featherweight champion from Puerto Rico, remains unbeaten in 30 fights (27 knockouts).

Gamboa, on the other hand, is a proud Cuban champion who holds the unified International Boxing Federation and World Boxing Association featherweight titles. He is also undefeated in 19 fights (15 KOs).

'Overcome yourself'

Bernstein, however, said that Donaire would have to take care of one thing if he wants to make his path to greatness.

"There is only one thing standing in between Nonito Donaire and his potential greatness and that's himself,” he said.

The boxing analyst said Donaire should learn to overcome the recent controversies involving his family and the media.

"Will his issues with his family mentally ever work on him and will he mentally make sure he stays in shape for every fight? Those are the only issues preventing Nonito Donaire from dominating every human being up to 126 pounds," he said.

Just over the weekend, Donaire found himself in a dispute with several media people over his family affairs.

He blasted sports journalists Chino Trinidad, Manny Piñol and Granville Ampong for allegedly meddling with his private life, in the wake of the now resolved feud between him and his father, Nonito Sr.

Donaire later patched things up with Piñol.
