The 28-year-old Nonito Donaire (26-1, 18 KOs), a Filipino native and two-division world champion known as "The Filipino Flash," is coming off a stunning second-round stoppage of Fernando Montiel last month, which won him the WBC and WBO bantamweight belts.

"It's a big signing for us," GBP CEO Richard Schaefer told USA TODAY. "He's on most people's pound-for-pound lists, and is ranked right there with (Floyd) Mayweather, (Manny) Pacquiao and Sergio Martinez."From an excitement point of view, I think he's right on top of that list now. He's a young, exciting fighter and we're really happy to have him with Golden Boy."

Nonito Donaire Jumps to Golden Boy, Arum Not Letting Go So Easy

“The Filipino Flash,” Nonito Donaire, fresh off his impressive second-round stoppage of Fernando Montiel has apparently signed a promotional deal with Golden Boy Promotions.
Golden Boy issued this in its press release today:
Golden Boy Promotions is extremely pleased to announce the signing of Two-Division World Champion Nonito Donaire to its roster of fighters. The 28-year-old native of the Philippines is coming off of a dominant second round stoppage of Fernando Montiel on February 19, which earned him the WBC and WBO Bantamweight World Titles. Now, as he looks to continue his reign as one of the top pound-for-pound boxers today, “The Filipino Flash” has signed an exclusive, multi-year agreement with Golden Boy Promotions.
“I’m honored to be joining so many great fighters and champions on the Golden Boy Promotions team,” said Donaire in the same announcement. “I’m going to fight my heart out every time I’m in the ring and will give fans the fights they want to see.”
However, Bob Arum of Top Rank, who has promoted Nonito Donaire for about three years, is not letting go so easy.
While Nonito claims that his promotional contract with
Top Rank is void due to the company’s inability to fulfill one of the terms of the deal, guaranteeing at least three fights per year, Arum is claiming that the lack of fights was due to injuries on Nonito Donaire’s part and that their deal could actually extend to 2013.

Golden Boy Promotions have officially confirmed the latest boxer to be joining their stable will be none other than pound-for-pound contender Nonito Donaire. The move signals a huge coup for Oscar De La Hoya’s firm as they have prised the bantamweight star away from Top Rank.

Golden Boy's new signing
Donaire cemented his super stardom status with a stunning second round kayo over three-weight world champion Fernando Montiel to secure the WBC and WBO versions of the 118lbs weight limit belt earlier in the year.
A statement on the Golden Boy Promotions website read: “Golden Boy is extremely pleased to announce the signing of Nonito Donaire to its roster of fighters.”
De La Hoya was delighted with the acquisition, as well as the opportunity to work with his latest ward. The former fighter even indicated that, contrary to rumour, Donaire would remain in the bantamweight division in order to defend his recently-won belts, as opposed to moving up in weight – something Top Rank promoter Bob Arum was said to be keen on.
“Nonito Donaire is one of the top boxers in the world today and we’re going to make sure he gets the chance to defend his world titles and stays as active as possible,” said De La Hoya. “The bantamweight division is becoming one of the most competitive and exciting divisions in boxing and we look forward to promoting Nonito in great fights in the coming years.”

In what is a shocking move, the talented Filipino American bantamweight champion, Nonito Donaire, officially left his old promoter Bob Arum and Top Rank Promotions for rival promoter Oscar De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions.

Golden Boy Promotions made one of the biggest accusations in boxing, Donaire is highly touted as the next Filipino superstar to follow in Manny Pacquiao’s footsteps and Golden Boy was able to sign him to their stable of fighters.

Garcia enthused: Nonito Donaire will top out at 130, maybe 135 pounds

Trainer Robert Garcia, who knows what it takes to be a world champion at 130 pounds, sees Growing Boy Nonito Donaire Jr., one of his two prized pupils along with new lightweight ruler Brandon "Bam Bam" Rios, topping out a junior lightweight but possibly bulking up to the 135 pound limit in the years ahead.

I spoke to the "Pride Of Oxnard" (a title he shares with his old stablemate Ferocious Fernando Vargas and now Rios) Wednesday and he said there's no reason for the 28 year old "Filipino Flash" not to be ready for fellow lefty and WBA bantamweight champ Anselmo "Chemito" Moreno in a unification title bout on May 28.

Donaire manager Cameron Dunkin told RingTV.com that the match might be held in Oakland in order to draw on the big Filipino Bay Area population.
It might seem too soon coming off Donaire's wreckage of Mexican veteran Fernando Montiel in two rounds 10 days ago but Garcia said no.
"We're striking when the iron is hot and, boy, is it hot," Garcia said. "He has no bumps, lumps or bruises so Nonito is ready to lock it in.
"We've got March, April until the end of May, three full months, that's enough. If Nonito wanted to lay back and enjoy the Montiel victory, it would be different."
Garcia said he's glanced at Moreno, a WBA ruler dating back to 2008, only briefly on Youtube.
"When the fight is all signed, then we'll get all the tapes on the guy."

WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire, Jr. is now in the middle of feud against sportswriters Chino Trinidad, Recah Trinidad, Anthony Andales, and Granville Ampong.

It all started when a video released by Rachel Donaire (wife) in the official website of the Filipino boxing champ, www.filipinoflash.com.

Rachel blamed the sports media especially the father and son tandem Recah and Chino Trinidad. She accused the Trinidad’s who made the issue about Donaire’s family in order to gain hits in their websites.
Rachel said,

“There are certain people in the media who have gotten fame from tearing our family apart and I think that collectively today, after seeing everything that has been out in the media and talking about what has really hurt us, the source is all the same—it’s all the media.

After ending the rift with his father, WBC and WBO bantamweight champion of the world Nonito Donaire, Jr. now blames sports media for what the family went through. The boxing champ verbally attacked Chino Trinidad, Anthony Andales, and Granville Ampong via a status update on Facebook.

Nonito Donaire Jr. posted:
“Chino, Pinol, n Ampong. Shut up n Leave my family alone: the Donaires n Marcials, esp my wife. Keep talking n ull feel what Montiel felt. U won’t see it, ull just feel it. Sonic Boom!!”

“Oh n btw, Chino, Ampong, n Pinol- Why dont u cm pick a fight with sm1 ur on size huh? ME AND PAPANG also said it was the media. We ALL pointed at U! So back off.”
Upon learning the Filipino boxer's message to him, sportwriter/sportscaster Chino Trinidad fired back through Twitter. The younger Trinidad tweeted:
“Funny how Mr. And Mrs. Donaire are so afraid of the ghost they created. If they aint stupid enough, maybe they would know that I don’t even have a byline. Maybe they can blame Facebook and Twitter. ”

NONITO DONAIRE JR and ubiquitous wife Rachel were interviewed by Pia Guanio in “Showbiz Central”. They said they’ll have a church wedding here in the country on November 11, which is a special date since it’s 11-11-11. His parents, with whom Jun previously had a rift, will be there now that they’ve reconciled. Pia had a phone patch interview with Nonito Sr and both parties said they’re happy that their misunderstanding that lasted for two years have ended cordially and Sr will be watching his son’s next fight live in Las Vegas on May 28. But Jr’s tiff with local sportswriters, notably Chino Trinidad, has not ended.

I am not the only one who couldn’t believe Nonito Donaire actually knocked the shit out of Fernando Montiel in two rounds. I was shocked to see Montiel lose in such fashion but this is boxing. The new unified bantamweight champion, Nonito Donaire, is itching to get back in the ring and rumor is he might be fighting on May 28th against Anselmo ‘Chemito’ Moreno in a unification clash in Donaire’s backyard of the San Francisco Bay Area. That area is home to one of the largest Filipino communities in the United States.

Nonito Donaire: The Killer Instinct, The Fear Factor and the Pacman
Nonito Donaire fights with a killer instinct.
No fear.
Donaire is not only flash in the ring, but superior fistic ability.
Rewatching Donaire’s second round knockout of Fernando Montiel on February 19, Donaire is seen combining speed, power and strategy.
Donaire was not fearful of Montiel’s right hand, it gave him the perfect setup for a brutal left hook, jerking Montiel’s head back grotesquely as his body gave out and he fell to the canvas.
Telling Max Kellerman following the fight “I just wanted to see how his body was, where his head was going to be and thats when I timed it”  was not bravado for Donaire.

Donaire unbeatable at 118 lbs

MANILA, Philippines – Boxing analyst Al Bernstein believes Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire will remain unbeatable as a bantamweight and could even remain competitive all the way up to the featherweight division.

He said Donaire, the newly crowned World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight champion, will be too much for anyone fighting in the 118-pound division.

"I don't think anybody at 118 pounds could touch Nonito Donaire," he said in FightHype.com.

As a former boxing reporter for ESPN and now analyst for Showtime Championship Boxing, Berstein knows a boxing talent when he sees it.

He thinks Donaire has what it takes to be successful in the super bantamweight and featherweight divisions.

Donaire recently demolished Mexican champion Fernando Montiel in just two rounds to take away the bantamweight titles.
